IDEAS TO SHARE

Katy’s programs for preschoolers may look like a zany composite of puppets, props, and silliness, but there are serious goals at work: to improve language development, listening skills, comprehension skills, and phonological awareness.  Her workshops teach preschool teachers a valuable way of working with children.

At the elementary school level, storytelling is an excellent tool to motivate readers and writers.  Children who are excited about moving a story from the page to the stage have a reason to read.  Consider following one of Katy’s assembly programs with a workshop on presentation skills for selected students.  Remember that storytelling is one of the best pre-writing exercises ever invented.  In her workshops and residencies, Katy shares ideas for jumpstarting young writers.
